Austin Pickup Planning
Pickup Details That Can Change the Plan
Austin moves can look very different from one address to the next. Parking, stairs, elevators, gates and the distance from the home to the truck are worth sorting out before moving day.
Curb & Truck Access
Limited curb space or parking rules can affect where the truck can stage for pickup.
Apartments & Elevators
Ask the property about elevator reservations, loading access and approved move hours.
Stairs, Gates & Long Carries
Share gate codes, flights of stairs and any longer carry between the home and the truck.
Destination Access
Parking, elevators and building rules matter at the delivery address too.

Highly recommend!
The team was professional, friendly, and handled my belongings with care. They arrived on time for both pick-up and delivery, and the communication throughout the entire move was clear and transparent. I appreciated that they kept me updated on the estimated arrival time of my items, which made the whole process feel less hectic.
There were a few minor hiccups, such as some slight delays during transit, but the team was very responsive when I reached out, and the delay didn’t affect the overall timeline too much. Additionally, my items arrived in excellent condition, and they even helped me reassemble some furniture that was disassembled during the move.
The pricing was reasonable compared to other quotes I received, and considering the level of service and care provided, it was well worth it. I would highly recommend Southwest van lines to anyone planning a long-distance move!
Austin Moving FAQ
Questions About Long-Distance Moving To or From Austin
Short answers about cost, interstate moving, apartments, packing, storage, routes, delivery and checking a mover before you book.
How much does a long-distance move from Austin cost?
Published Austin market examples range from under $1,000 for some smaller Texas moves to well over $10,000 for larger or much longer shipments. Your actual estimate depends on inventory, distance, access, move date and services such as packing or storage.
Does Southwest Van Lines handle interstate moves from Austin?
Southwest Van Lines plans interstate household moves from Austin to destinations in other states. FMCSA SAFER currently lists Southwest Van Lines LLC under USDOT 4142008 and MC 1588300 as authorized for Motor Carrier of Household Goods service.
Can Southwest Van Lines move me to Austin from another state?
Austin can be the destination as well as the origin. Share your current city, Austin-area delivery address, move date, inventory and access details so the route and requested services can be reviewed.
Can you plan long-distance moves from Austin apartments and condos?
Yes. Apartment and condo planning should include the floor, stairs or elevator, loading access, parking, move hours and any property-management requirements. The same applies to access at the destination.
Do you move houses and townhomes in the Austin area?
Household moves can originate from single-family homes and townhomes as well as apartments and condos. Share driveway access, stairs, gates, large furniture and any items that need extra preparation.
Do you offer packing and storage for long-distance moves?
Full or partial packing and storage options may be available depending on the move. Mention these needs when requesting the estimate so they can be reviewed with the route, inventory and schedule.
How far ahead should I schedule long-distance movers in Austin?
Starting several weeks ahead gives you more time to confirm inventory, building access and your preferred pickup date. Summer, month-end and less-flexible dates can fill sooner, so earlier planning is usually helpful.
How do I know whether my Austin route is available?
Send the Austin-area origin or destination, the other city or state and your move date. Common directions include Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Colorado, Florida and longer cross-country routes, but availability should be confirmed for the actual move.
How long does delivery take after an Austin pickup?
Delivery timing depends on destination, shipment size and the transportation schedule. Review the delivery window that applies to your specific shipment before booking rather than relying on a generic transit-time promise.
What should I verify before hiring an interstate mover in Austin?
Check the legal company name, USDOT number and current FMCSA operating authority. Then review the written estimate, inventory, Bill of Lading and valuation terms before signing your moving documents.
